I have owned several home gymn systems over the years and the Bowflex Home Gym has, by far, been the most effective because of it's ease of use. Because of this, my workouts are done more routinely and consistently. This is certainly the case with the SelectTech Dumbbells system. Not every gym system can cover everything you want to do as part of your exercise program. That's why I tried the SelectTech. There are targeted muscles I just could not challenge as effectively as I wanted ... and I couldn't afford much more floor space. The SelectTech system has turned out to be the best solution that I was looking for.

The dumbbells are great space savers, and I highly recommend them if you need dumbbells and have very limited space. But they have two drawbacks. 1) The plates get out of alignment too often causing a dial to stick. Sometimes it can take a few minutes to fix the problem which is frustrating during the middle of a workout. 2) The length of each dumbbell makes them a bit clumsy. The dumbbells are at full length regardless of whether they are set at 5 lbs. or 52.5 lbs. This makes certain dumbbell excercises hard to complete due to the length of each dumbbell.

I bought the 552's to use with a popular home exercise program that begins with a "P" and ends with an "X." They are excellent for all ranges of dumbbell exercise for arms, legs, chest, etc. Changing the weights by turning the dial could not be any easier.
Besides being easy to use, I love the fact that there is a lot of weight combinations. That allows me to use them for just about any type of exercise and also allows me to use more weight as I progress. I'm not a body builder, I'm an athlete and I can't imagine needing more weight on a dumb bell.
I would also recommend buying the stand, it makes storing and moving the dumb bells really easy (you can put the provided wheels on the stand to move it from room to room, etc.) The stand is also ergonomic in that it is very easy to replace the dumb bells to the stand so you don't have to put your hand in an awkward angle.
The 552's are definitely worth the money and I would definitely recommend them to anyone interested in working out at home.

I use this product as a great tool for P90X. You can't ask for a better use for it. Changing weight values is very easy and convenient. It's a no brainer as far as the savings, both in money and space, compared to buying a complete dumbell set. The grips are comfortable, and the weights are sleek. At times, on the lower weights, it can seem a little bulky, but consider that this equipment adjusts from 5 to 52.5#, so it doesn't phase me. All in all, a great investment and will allow me to cut my gym membership. In fact, I forsee getting the 1090 dumbells in the near future due to the great construction and versitility of the 552s. Well done Bowflex, perfect for the at home fitness guy that doesn't have the time to get home with kids, go to the gym after, and get to bed at a reasonable time.

I use it with the P90X routine. I can't seem to pass by it without picking it up and squeezing out a set or two. If they were to use a more dense material it could be more compact and probably more expensive. I am super satisfied with the build and function. They also look cool.
